GM of UX

Hi, I'm Simeon, a visual thinker and UX/UI designer based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, who has been designing since 2020. I started during the COVID-19 period, and what began as curiosity quickly grew into a passion for creating clean, simple, and useful digital experiences.

I have a degree in Software Engineering, so I understand both design and the technical side of building products. That helps me communicate well with developers and design solutions that are realistic, efficient, and user-focused.

I specialise in facilitation, no-code web development, and web & app design, combining creativity and strategy to deliver user-centric work that drives business growth.

§ 03Process

How I play
the game.

Three phases, borrowed from chess. Every project opens with research, fights through the middlegame of design, and is won in testing.

  1. Opening

    Research & strategy

Understand the board before touching a piece. I dig into users' goals, the business, and what competitors get right (and wrong).

    • Interviews
    • Competitive analysis
    • Personas
    • Goal-directed design
  2. Middlegame

    Design & prototype

Every screen is a move toward the user's goal. I go from rough wireframes to polished visuals and clickable prototypes.

    • Prototyping
    • Design systems
  3. Endgame

    Test, iterate & ship

Usability studies find the blunders before users do. Then a clean handoff, and thanks to my engineering background, I speak dev.

§ 04Skills

My hand.

Eight cards I'm always holding, dealt face down. Flip them to see what I play. The wild card? A software engineering degree.

§ 05Mini game

Puzzle corner

Your move, player two.

Chess is how I unwind (and how I think about design: see the whole board, anticipate the next move). Here's a little puzzle. You're Blue.

Blue to move. Find checkmate in one.

Need a hint?

Red's king is boxed in by its own pawns. Look at the back rank…
